Counters

How do the Counters work ?

Five separate counters are available allowing the user to keep track of individual project items such as row count, increase repeats, decrease repeats, stitch repeats and pattern repeats. StitchnCount provides buttons to add, subtract and clear each of the counters. Counters can display a value between 0 and 999.

An individual counter can be used in several ways:

  • Use the trackball to position to the desired on screen buttons (+, -, C) and click the trackball
  • Use a key shortcut (described below)

Key shortcuts are available for operating each counter. Once positioned to the row for the desired counter, the following keys can be used for that counter:

  • Add: +, I, i (or u, U on Pearl)
  • Subtract: -, D, d
  • Clear: C, c

Can the Counter value be set to any number ?

Counters can display a value between 0 and 999 and come with an initial setting of 0. The "Set Counter Value" menu item can be used to set the desired counter to any value between 0 and 999. The dialog for setting the counter value is show below:

When are the Counters saved ?

The counter data is saved automatically when StitchnCount is closed by selecting the "Close" menu item or selecting the Escape key (). Note: The Red End/Power key () does not close the application, instead StitchnCount remains running in the background. When selecting the Red End/Power key, the counters are not saved when StitchnCount moves to the background.

The counters can also be saved as desired by selecting the "Save Counters" menu item.

Counter Names

Can the Counter names be customized ?

The program comes with five preset counter names: Rows, Increase, Decrease, Repeat and Pattern. Each of these names can be customized to provide flexibility for a wide variety of projects.

A custom name can be specified for any of the individual counters by selecting the desired counter name and clicking the trackball. A menu will appear with a "(Custom)" item. Scroll through the menu to select this item and a dialog window will appear allowing entry of a user-specified counter name. A custom counter name is limited to 8 characters.

When entering a custom name, SureType mode is disabled to prevent suggestions that will be longer than the allowable name length. Multi-tap mode can be used to enter the desired custom name.

Custom Name Dialog

I have customized the Counter names and no longer have the original names available. How can I get the original names back ?

If one of the original pre-set counter names is customized, it will no longer be available for selection directly from the menu displayed for selecting counter names. If this happens, the original counter name can be restored by entering it as a custom name through the counter name menu. Alternately, the "Reset Counter Names" menu item can be used to restore all five pre-set counter names.

Can I name more than one counter with the same name ?

One or more counters can use the same name. To accomplish this, the name for subsequent counters should be entered as a custom name to ensure that the menu selections work correctly.
